ZURICH / LONDON / MUNICH, 17 July 2026 — Lakestar, one of Europe’s leading technology investment firms with over USD 6 billion in assets under management across institutional venture funds and private investments, has announced the closing of Lakestar Resilience I, a dedicated fund purpose-built for dual-use and defence technology companies across Europe and NATO-allied markets. The oversubscribed fund has raised USD 300 million, with investor interest significantly exceeding the fund’s targeted size. Resilience I is the largest institutional venture fund of its kind in Europe, raised from private capital, including leading strategic and institutional investors as well as large industrial family offices. It is managed by a team with more than a decade of active investment experience in the sector.
“Freedom is not for free. Sovereignty and Europe’s capabilities in critical technologies are a core concern for all of us. Europe and its Western allies need sovereign technology capital in the defence and dual-use sectors. At Lakestar we have backed founders in this space for almost a decade, well before it became a consensus view. This fund delivers on a commitment I made in October of last year,” said Klaus Hommels, Founder and Chairman of Lakestar.
“The founders in Europe’s defence technology ecosystem are building world-class companies that develop and bring to scale innovative solutions used in combat and procured by militaries and governments around the world. Our portfolio companies supply a large share of the defence solutions allied governments are acquiring today. We are committed to our founders from an early stage and will continue to back them as they scale. The dedicated Resilience I fund gives us the capital and the focus to partner with founders who have chosen to solve the hardest problems in the most consequential category of our time. The strong valuation uplifts we have already seen in our resilience portfolio confirm that markets recognise the scope of the transformation underway to protect Europe’s prosperity, resilience, and security.”
Lakestar’s portfolio spans the full spectrum of combat-proven sovereign technology for Europe and Western Allies: advanced autonomous systems, AI-driven defence software, sovereign drone manufacturing, missile technology, space technologies and maritime platforms. Built from 2017 across fund generations, the portfolio consists of ARX Robotics, Auterion, Cambridge Aerospace, Constellr, Dominion Dynamics, Frankenburg, Helsing, Isar Aerospace, Kela, Kraken Technology, Lateration, Onodrim, SE3 Labs, SWARM Biotactics, Tekever, The Hacking Games, Tiberius, Twentyfour Industries, Tytan, and UFORCE, with other entities currently operating in stealth.
Founders in the portfolio have raised over USD 5 billion in private capital to pioneer Europe’s resilience capabilities. Products and solutions developed and manufactured by portfolio companies and their partners have been procured by militaries and governments across major European and allied nations, generating several billion USD in revenue. The companies employ more than five thousand experts across disciplines, making the cluster one of the most important and fastest-growing talent pools in European technology.
Advisory Board
The fund is supported by an advisory board bringing together four of the West’s most senior figures across defence, policy, and technology.
- •General (ret.) Sir Nicholas Carter, former Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom, and General (ret.) Volker Wieker, former Generalinspekteur of the German Bundeswehr, contribute direct operational command experience at NATO’s highest levels and deep institutional relationships across European and transatlantic defence structures.
- •Secretary Mike Pompeo, former U.S. Secretary of State, brings unparalleled access to the U.S. national security establishment and the diplomatic networks that shape sovereign defence procurement.
- •Baroness Martha Lane Fox, technology entrepreneur and crossbench peer, contributes a perspective that few defence-focused investors can claim: a practitioner’s understanding of how technology scales, combined with sustained engagement at the intersection of digital policy and public institutions.
Together, they provide the fund with the access, judgment, and credibility that capital alone cannot buy.
“We are proud to welcome four outstanding leaders to the Resilience I Advisory Board, each of whom has shaped the Western defence, security and technology ecosystems at the highest levels,” said Klaus Hommels. “For those building the infrastructure of Western security, there is no better set of partners to navigate the institutions that will determine who wins. The Board is a strategic and operational force multiplier for founders competing at the intersection of technology, procurement, and geopolitics.”
